ABOUT HOLLIE

Wild Roots Family Daycare Philosophy

Working with children has always been a passion of mine, that has evolved over the last 20 years. I have had the pleasure of working with children in many different capacities including 9 + years in Family Day Care, Special Needs Education Assistant in various schools, Foster Care and one-on-one support of children with varying abilities.

I am passionate about child development and committed to ongoing professional and personal development and reflection. I strongly believe that using a child-led and play-based holistic approach in a home environment that values Montessori teaching, natural resources and sustainability will be a valuable service for the little humans of Denmark and their families

I believe in equipping children with the emotional intelligence and resilience to be able to negotiate their world with a sense of wellbeing, self-esteem and joy. This gives children the freedom to learn and discover their interests and strengths. I believe in giving children time – time to explore, time to create, time to be. I believe in respecting their abilities, their opinions and their understanding of their own needs and supporting their efforts to communicate these, helping them to learn to trust themselves. I believe an educator’s role is to foster children’s independence with opportunities for developmentally appropriate challenge, risk-taking and problem-solving.

I endeavour to observe children and present play and learning opportunities based on their interests. I believe in beautiful, natural environments and materials that inspire a sense of wonder and a connectedness with the natural world. I believe that children are the custodians of our planet. As such I foster interactions with nature – animals, plants and insects – because to know them is to love and protect them.

I believe in wholesome, natural food that will nourish their bodies and minds. I encourage children to help grow and prepare our food. Wherever possible our meals will be home-grown or locally sourced, homemade and organic.

I believe it takes a village to raise a child and hope to become part of your child’s village. I believe in working with families to support the outcomes they want for their child. I welcome diversity and believe it serves to enrich a community.
